How we score

Below our stories you will find a Constructive score from 0 to 100. It is an assessment by an AI model against fixed, published criteria. It is not a grade for truth or quality and not a judgement about the authors. It measures one thing only: how constructive is a text in the sense of constructive journalism?

The four criteria

Solution named: Does the text name an answer, an approach or a step forward instead of only describing a problem?

Evidence: Does the text rest on concrete facts, figures or sources?

Limits named: Does the text say honestly what is still open or where the solution reaches its limits?

Tone: Is the basic attitude sober or lively (good), alarmist or promotional (less good)?

The scale

60 to 100: solution-oriented, evidenced, sober to encouraging. 40 to 59: mixed, often a problem description with some constructive elements. Below 40: pure problem description, alarmism or opinion without evidence.

What the score cannot do

It does not check facts and does not detect false reports. It assesses the text only, not pictures or videos. We apply the same criteria and the same scale to the German edition. If you think an assessment is wrong, you can reach us through the legal notice (in German).
