Anthropic Files to List Shares in Possible Record Sale
Investors may soon be able to buy shares in the company behind Claude, an AI chatbot. Anthropic, based in San Francisco, filed papers on Monday, 26 October, to list its stock on the Nasdaq exchange in New York. Reports cited by DW say the share sale could raise as much as 100 billion dollars, above the 86 billion dollars raised by SpaceX in the largest stock market debut so far.
The paperwork, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US market regulator, follows a confidential filing in June that let the agency review Anthropic's finances first. The shares are to trade under the symbol "ANT", with the banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading the sale. Analysts value the company, founded in 2021 by former staff of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, at 1.5 trillion to 2 trillion dollars. The filing shows 112.4 billion dollars in cash and cash equivalents as of June 30.
The filing leaves blank how many shares Anthropic will sell and at what price, so the size of the sale is an estimate. The company loses money: a net loss of 80.7 billion dollars in the first half of 2026, against 13 billion dollars a year earlier. Its founders warn they may slow development even if rivals pull ahead.
According to reports, the listing could happen as early as November, once Anthropic sets the number of shares and their price. OpenAI, its main rival, is also set to list its shares next year.
A factual, well-sourced business report with honest caveats, but it describes an event rather than offering a solution or progress on a problem.
The text is sober and rich in concrete figures, such as the filing date, cash holdings, losses and the exchange symbol. It also states limits openly: the number of shares and the price are still blank, so the size of the sale is only an estimate. However, it does not address a problem or a response to one, so it is simply a news report on a market event. A clearer look at what the listing means for the public, for AI safety or for regulation, backed by sources, would raise the score.
